Reboot of “The Warriors” to feature new gang — The Yang Gang
The original movie featured the eponymous gang on the run across New York after being falsely framed for the murder of a respected rival gang leader.
The Netflix series will see the Warriors grapple with a new type of gang — The Yang Gang.
“Feel the Bloodthirsty grit of seventies gang turf wars come to life,” begins the show description. “But instead of brass knuckles, and brick bats, The Warriors will be confronted by the Yang Gang — an earnest cabal of well educated zealots, armed only with a humanity first spin on capitalism, as well the promise of $1000 per month, free and clear.”
Series director Clyde Gaffer believes the Yang Gang poses a much needed update to the well-worn tropes of gang power dynamics.
“The real bogeyman of 2020 is not the threat of being stabbed or shot, but that of technological displacement," began Gaffer. "People are waking up to the fact joblessness and social breakdown are far more potent weapons than a .38 Special."
The Yang Gang's spiritual leader, Andrew Yang believes the Gang's presence in The Warriors creates a sense of urgency around his main message.
"We need to rewrite the rules of gang warfare. It won't be easy, but we don't have a choice. It's free cash, or we're all fucked #math."
More to come.
