Seeking Hipness, Indiana Mayor to Re-Name Town, “South Bend it Like Beckham”

SOUTH BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM, INDIANA — In a controversial but lauded move, a fresh faced midwestern mayor has renamed his city in a ballsy publicity stunt.

Pete Buttigieg, presidential aspirant and sometime mayor of South Bend, Indiana; has used his executive power to rename his city, “South Bend it like Beckham,” in homage to the 2002 surprise smash.  

“It’s really a no brainer,” said the media-savvy capricorn. “Now in addition to Notre Dame and Studebakers, our city will be synonymous with a heartwarming British-Indian girl’s coming of age story.”

The renaming of the city is a controversial one, given that South Bend has never had an accepted nickname — although for a period it was mysteriously nicknamed the “Lotion City.” While historical accounts tie the nickname to the town being the “quack remedy” manufacturing hub of the Midwest; more recent thinking suggests it’s due the city containing the highest masturbation rate per capita in the upper 48 states.
