Breaking: John Lewis Board Member Not Thrilled with Elton John Commercial

London, U.K. -- In a surprising turn of events, the heartwarming John Lewis commercial featuring Sir Elton John, has received a tepid response from an esteemed board member of the retail giant.

John Lewis board member Luke Wahrm was surprisingly skeptical of the spot which is remarkable, given the universal praise the ad has drawn from corners near and far.

“It’s wildly unrealistic to say the least. You really expect a working class family to pony up for a piano for a 2 year old Elton?” Said Mr. Wahrm. “A toy keyboard maybe, but a top of the line Yamaha in a nation worried about the economic tremors of Brexit? You’re having a laugh, Guv.”

Continuing, Mr. Wahrm remained incredulous with the selection of Sir Elton as the star, challenging the singer’s bona fides as a creative powerhouse. “One of our brand pillars is “authenticity” which seems at odds with the fact Bernie Taupin penned every Elton note and lyric.”

Meanwhile, industry analysts have been bullish on the advert, showing a number of key metrics such as brand love, preference, loyalty, and sales all far surpassing campaign targets.

Despite this, Wahrm remained unimpressed. “You don’t even see our logo till the end card — just shite, mate. You know Elton’s not even his real name?”

More to come.
